The Omega Speedmaster was chosen by NASA in 1965 after outperforming numerous other contenders in rigorous testing. They were first issued during the Gemini program using this style watch, famously worn and nicknamed the "Ed White" for the astronaut caught wearing the piece. More Speedmasters were thereafter purchased, and starting with the Apollo program, astronauts were being issued the "Professional" marked 105.012's in a beefier case with crown and pusher protection. They remain flight qualified by NASA to this day and accompany astronauts to the ISS regularly. Modern interpretations of this watch are still in production.
